IShowSpeed challenges Kevin Durant to 1v1 competition
Popular live streamer IShowSpeed recently claimed he could beat NBA superstar Kevin Durant in a one-on-one basketball matchup—under one specific condition. During an appearance on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, Speed outlined the terms that could tip the scales in his favor.
The conversation began with Sharpe applauding Speed’s athleticism, including his near-upset over Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles in a recent race. When asked if he could defeat Kevin Durant in basketball, Speed recalled their first encounter, where the two played a casual game of HORSE. Despite being overmatched, Speed believes his speed and stamina could make a difference in a full-court setting.
Listen, I could beat KD if it’s a full-court 1v1 because of my speed. But half court, yeah, he got it. If it’s full court and I’m running, yeah, he won’t [beat me].
IShowSpeed said
Speed’s confidence lies in his explosive quickness and physical endurance, which he claims could give him the edge in a fast-paced, full-court match. Kevin Durant’s length, shooting ability, and overall dominance in a controlled, half-court game have already been proven during their previous meeting.
However, Speed insists that a full-court format would level the playing field, forcing Durant into a running contest where he might not have the same advantage. While his claims are certainly bold, they also reflect Speed’s persona on and off stream. His uncanny athleticism and competitive spirit have always led him to face off against some of the greatest athletes in the world.
Kevin Durant’s first meeting with IShowSpeed
The roots of this playful rivalry trace back to a podcast appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive, where both IShowSpeed and Kevin Durant were featured as guests. The two, both signed under Paul’s PRIME brand, shared the court for a game of HORSE.
Durant’s performance was akin to his elite precision on court. He effortlessly landed shots from all over the court while Speed struggled to keep up.
During the podcast, Speed’s over-the-top persona appeared to annoy Kevin Durant at times, especially during moments of exaggerated admiration that veered into awkward territory. Yet, despite the playful tension, the two maintained a friendly rapport, as later seen in their interactions during the game.
For now, KD’s attention remains on the court where his Phoenix Suns team is trying to get back on track after his absence caused the team to fall from the top of the Western Conference. After Durant’s return from injury earlier this week, the Suns will take on the Golden State Warriors for a matchup between Olympic teammates Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
