The Golden State Warriors have lost some steam after starting the season with an impeccable 12-3 record.
The Warriors are reportedly looking to make a splash by adding another superstar, and there’s a chance the organization may consider reuniting with Kevin Durant this season.
Durant, averaging 25.8 points per game on 53.6% shooting from the field and 44.9% from deep with the Phoenix Suns this season, joined the Warriors during the 2016 offseason.
As a slender 6-foot-11 wing with extraordinary side-to-side handles and an aesthetically pleasing jump-shot form, Durant helped guide the Warriors to two championships in three seasons.
While the Texas product may not be the same player he was in the 2010s, he can still routinely torch defenders on the perimeter before finishing possessions with his shot of choice.
Regarding familiarity, the Warriors would be overjoyed to bring back an unguardable forward with meaningful experience playing alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green in the Bay.
However, Suns owner Mat Ishbia has been adamant about Phoenix retaining its star player this season.
“Kevin Durant is not going anywhere,” Ishbia said in November. “We’re trying to compete at the highest level, and there are 29 other teams that are trying to do it, but when you have a chance or an opportunity, you want to take advantage of it.”
Including Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, and multiple other appealing assets in a trade package for Durant may help move the needle for Ishbia and the Suns.
Still, there’s no guarantee the Suns, who sit at 12-11, would be content with hastily throwing their championship aspirations out the window.
Durant may be a dream target for the Warriors, but it would take a lot of convincing to get the Suns to move on from arguably the greatest isolation scorer of all time.
