Should Micah Parsons’ Cowboys Defense Rank Top 5 In NFL?

Pro Football Network released their defensive rankings and the Dallas Cowboys unit lands in the top 5

DALLAS – As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the season, and training camp is on way, sites are beginning to release their position and position group rankings.

Pro Football Network released their rankings of all 32 teams’ defenses and the Cowboys crack the top five … coming in at No. 4.

“While it’s fair to be concerned about the departure of former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Dallas’ defense is far too talented to fall very far,” PFN writes. “Micah Parsons is arguably the best defensive player in the NFL, while star cornerback Trevon Diggs is returning from a torn ACL. The addition of Eric Kendricks and the return of DeMarvion Overshown at linebacker could be huge as well.”

Curiously missing is any mention of All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland, who set an NFL record last season with five interceptions returned for touchdowns.

This group is super-talented up and down the board, but haven’t quite lived up to their billing in big games.  Does last seasons Wild Card game against the Green Bay Packers at home ring any bells?

This Cowboys defense has to step up in big moments if the Cowboys want to take that next step. They open the season against the Cleveland Browns on the road; that would be a good time to establish something.

The Browns are hungry and have some urgency in their camp as well. With the weapons they possess on offense, it will be a true test of this defense right out of the gate.

The Cowboys try to put it all together starting in training camp, which opens in Oxnard, California on July 25
