Lakers News: Will Anthony Davis Request a Trade After This Season?

Anthony Davis stands at the crossroads of his career as speculation mounts over his future with the Lakers ahead of the new season.

Lakers News: Anthony Davis Emerges as East Rival's Preferred Trade Target

The Lakers face a pivotal moment as speculation grows around Anthony Davis and his future with the team. With the 2024 season approaching, questions arise about whether Davis should consider requesting a trade if the team’s performance falters.

Davis, a key player for the Lakers, has had a standout season, earning his first All-Star nod in three years and solidifying his status as a top player in the league. His impressive stats from the last season include an average of 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

This season marked his healthiest stretch in years, allowing him to reclaim the spotlight from LeBron James, who remains a significant figure on the team.

The Lakers made some changes this offseason, including hiring a new head coach and drafting promising young talent. However, the core of the team remains largely unchanged after a disappointing playoff exit last year.

With the same roster heading into the new season, there are doubts about whether the Lakers can improve on their 47-35 record.

“I think he’s the future of the team. I don’t think he does,” Fox Sports’ Rob Parker said during an appearance on Scoop B Radio. “I don’t think he’s going to get together, I really don’t.

“I’m not expecting much from the Lakers and especially looking at the West and they’re locked and loaded with a lot of good teams. Just too much change, too many changes of coaching; J.J. Reddick could wind up being [six-time Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowler-turned-interim head coach] Jeff Saturday… we don’t even know, you know what I mean?

“So it could be a disaster and then the dynamic with Bronny [James]; how does that fit in? And LeBron forcing him into the lineup and minutes and how do his teammates react… it’s just a lot of stuff there that could blow up and be toxic. It really could be.”

Davis, now 31, is at a crucial point in his career. As he enters the latter stages of his prime, the urgency to compete for a championship grows. The Lakers are banking on the return of key players who missed significant time last season to enhance their defensive capabilities. However, whether these adjustments will be enough to satisfy Davis remains uncertain.

As the season unfolds, the Lakers must prove they can contend in a competitive Western Conference. If they struggle early on, Davis may have to weigh his options carefully regarding his future with the franchise.
