Brandon Aiyuk ruled out of second half of 49ers game with Chiefs with worrying knee injury

Very little went right for the San Francisco 49ers in the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs.

And there was a big blow at the end of the second quarter as wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffered a worrying knee injury on a third-down reception from Brock Purdy.

Aiyuk’s knee was bent back as he caught the ball between two defenders.

He left the field under his own power but was taken to the locker room on a cart.

And the 49ers quickly ruled him out at the start of the third quarter, prompting obvious concern that a frustrating season for the All-Pro wideout could be over.

Aiyuk has endured a largely disappointing year since signing a four-year, $120 million extension after a lengthy contract stand-off.

He entered the game with 351 yards and zero receiving touchdowns, having surpassed 1,000 yards in each of the last two years.

Aiyuk’s absence for the second half exacerbated the problems at wide receiver for the 49ers, with Deebo Samuel ruled out with an illness and leading receiver Jauan Jennings ruled out before the game with a hip injury.
