Lakers News: Assessing Anthony Davis’ Chances for Third Olympic Gold in 2028

As the 2028 Olympics approach, we evaluate Anthony Davis’ likelihood of competing for Team USA again.

The Lakers’ Anthony Davis is facing uncertainty regarding his potential participation in the 2028 Olympics.

After helping Team USA secure gold at the 2024 Paris Games, the focus now shifts to Los Angeles, where the next Olympic basketball tournament will take place.

During the 2024 Olympics, Team USA showcased a star-studded roster, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

This team successfully captured its fifth consecutive gold medal, overcoming tough competition from emerging international teams.

Notably, the Serbian national team, led by Nikola Jokic, provided a significant challenge in the semifinals, while the gold medal match against France was closely contested.

As the 2028 Olympics approach, Team USA is expected to undergo a transformation. The likelihood of James, Curry, and Durant playing together again is slim, as they may step back from international competition.

LeBron James did comment on his future with Team USA during a conversation with Donatas Urbonas of Basket News.

“I can’t see myself playing in Los Angeles 2028. I didn’t see myself playing in Paris 2024 too. But four years from now, I can’t see it.”

This shift opens the door for younger players like Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant, and Paolo Banchero to take on leadership roles.

Davis, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has been a key player for Team USA, particularly known for his defensive skills.

However, by 2028, he will be 35 years old, and his history of injuries raises questions about his availability.

While his experience and success at various levels make him an ideal candidate to mentor the next generation of players, his injury concerns complicate the situation.

As the Lakers and their fans look ahead, the future of Anthony Davis in the Olympics remains uncertain.

His contributions to Team USA have been invaluable, but the challenges of age and health will play a significant role in determining whether he will compete for a third Olympic title.
