VIDEO: Kevin Garnett Believes Chicago Bulls Should Give Their Former NBA MVP His Own Statue

The Miami Heat recently paid tribute to basketball icon Dwyane Wade by unveiling a statue in his honor outside the Kaseya Center. Following the unveiling ceremony, many fans and players began to mention other legends they believe deserve a statue. Recently, former NBA player Kevin Garnett proposed one such legend’s name.

In a recent KG Certified podcast episode, host Garnett praised Chicago Bulls legend Derrick Rose. Garnett argued that Rose’s contributions to the Bulls and the NBA deserve lasting recognition. He proposed a statue in Rose’s honor in Chicago, symbolizing his iconic moments and achievements.

“He grows up the best player on those teams, he goes to high school…Goes off to college… he gets drafted by them… Then he becomes MVP of the league while he’s with that team… A D-Rose statue in Chicago, it doesn’t have to be on Mike’s side, Mike needs to have his own s—t. To grow up in Chicago and to dominate Chicago basketball with the Bulls’ DNA.” Garnett said.

During his 16-season career, Rose encountered numerous challenges, especially injuries that greatly impacted his journey in the league. Garnett spoke about Rose’s exceptional talent and resilience, highlighting his significant influence on the game.

Garnett Recognizes Rose’s Outstanding Influence On The Bulls

The Bulls selected Derrick Rose with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. After his debut in the league, Rose immediately impacted the court. He won the Rookie of the Year award at the end of his first NBA season. In the 2010-11 NBA season, Rose won the NBA MVP award, becoming the youngest player to achieve this at the age of 22 years and 7 months. Further in the interview, Garnett praised Rose for his outstanding contributions to the Bulls.

“That is magical and we’ve never seen that. Then you win MVP, you’re the people’s champ bro that is the ultimate fantasy for every kid who is playing in the crate, who is playing in the alley, who is out there on the black top.” Garnett said.

During the 2011-12 NBA season, Rose tore the ACL in his left knee, which significantly impacted his professional career. This injury kept him out for the rest of the season and affected him in the long term. Despite the challenges and setbacks he faced due to the injury, The Windy City Assassin’s legacy within the franchise remains intact.
