Rob Gronkowski recently surprised fans by shifting his support to the Kansas City Chiefs, backing Patrick Mahomes and even voicing approval for the team’s trade acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins. Despite his long-standing loyalty to Tom Brady, Gronk appeared enthusiastic about the Chiefs‘ potential dominance, praising Mahomes and suggesting the team could be a serious contender.

However, in a recent episode of the Dudes On Dudes podcast, Gronk and his former Patriots teammate Julian Edelman sparked further conversation by discussing their thoughts on Mahomes and Brady.

During the podcast, the two friends chatted about star tight end Travis Kelce and the dynamics of the Chiefs’ offenseGronkowski openly admired Kelce, even saying he’d love to team up with him if a hypothetical opportunity ever arose to play together. But when the discussion turned to quarterbacks, things took an interesting turn.

Gronkowski posed a question to Edelman, asking who he would choose as the quarterback for their ideal team-Mahomes, Brady, or a combination of the two, each playing for a half.

Edelman explains why he picked Brady

After some deliberation, Edelman confidently picked Brady. Gronk quickly echoed the choice, reaffirming their preference.

Edelman pointed out that Mahomes‘ style, characterized by improvisation and quick reactions, would be challenging for those used to a more structured system.

He described Mahomes‘ gameplay as a “scramble drill” that might be difficult for players accustomed to Brady’s precise, methodical approach.

“It’s that scrambled drill like Travis is always open when there’s that second play within the play that Patrick Mahomes create,” Edelman said.

“And they’ve got on such a wavelength, where he’s always in the open position. He knows where to go. Mahomes reads and scans the field better than anyone. He always finds it open and Mahomes always delivers it to him. So it’d be different. It’d be very different”.
