Milestones to watch in 2024-25 NBA season ft. LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and more

As the 2024-25 NBA season begins, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and several other players are poised to further solidify their legacies in league history.

LeBron James, Stephen Curry and other players are set to etch their names deeper into NBA history as the 2024-25 season unfolds. With a landscape that constantly evolves, this season is brimming with milestones to watch. As these legends and other stars take the court, fans can anticipate thrilling moments and record-breaking achievements.

LeBron James

50k points in the pipeline

LA Lakers superstar LeBron James made history two seasons ago when he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. With a career total of 40,474 regular season points and 8,162 postseason points, he is now just 1,364 points shy of reaching the remarkable milestone of 50,000 career points.

A new milestone in NBA minutes awaits

LeBron James is just 850 minutes away from surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most regular-season minutes played in NBA history. After averaging 35.3 minutes per game last season, he could reach this significant milestone by the Lakers’ 24th game on December 8 against the Portland Trail Blazers, assuming he maintains his health and manages his workload effectively.

Closing in on the all-time games played record

LeBron James is on track to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 1,560 regular-season games played if he competes in 69 games this season. That would place him just behind Robert Parish, who holds the record for the most games played at 1,611.

Chasing the all-time 30-point record

With just nine more 30-point games, LeBron James is in line to eclipse Michael Jordan’s record of 562 for the most such performances in league history. Last season, he notched 22 games with 30 or more points, positioning himself to achieve this historic milestone.

Approaching charity stripe excellence

James is steadily ascending the all-time free throw leaderboard. With just 142 more successful free throws this season—after making 303 last year—he will surpass Moses Malone’s total of 8,531, claiming the second spot in NBA history. The all-time record, held by Karl Malone, stands at an impressive 9,787 made free throws.

First father-son duo

After being selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny James is poised to make history by stepping onto the court as a teammate of his father, LeBron James. This milestone will mark the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo competes together, provided both are active players next season.

Stephen Curry

Eyeing 4k three pointers

This season, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is targeting an impressive milestone: 4,000 career three-pointers. After becoming the NBA’s all-time leading three-point scorer in 2021, he is poised to add another achievement to his illustrious career. With 3,747 three-pointers already made, Curry needs just 253 more to reach this remarkable landmark in regular-season play.

Within range of 25k career points

Stephen Curry is within striking distance of reaching 25,000 career points. As he enters his 16th season with the Golden State Warriors, he requires 1,332 points to hit this milestone. If he maintains last season’s scoring pace, he could achieve this feat by the Warriors’ 50th game on February 8 against the Chicago Bulls.

Kevin Durant

Slim reaper eyeing 29k points

Following LeBron James on the all-time scoring leaderboard, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant is just 76 points away from reaching the impressive milestone of 29,000 career points.

After averaging 27.1 points per game last season, the 14-time All-Star has a clear path to this milestone, provided he stays healthy. If all goes well, Durant could reach this mark by the Suns’ third game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks on October 26.

James Harden

Aiming to climb the three-point ranks

LA Clippers guard James Harden is on the verge of a significant achievement in his career. With 2,940 career three-pointers, he needs only 34 more to surpass Ray Allen for the second-most in NBA history.

Russell Westbrook

One shy of 200 career triple-doubles

Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook stands just one triple-double away from reaching the extraordinary milestone of 200 in his career. As the all-time leader with 199 triple-doubles, he is close to becoming the first player to reach that number.

Nikola Jokic

Steadily climbing the triple-double ladder

Westbrook’s new teammate, Nikola Jokic, is also making strides in the triple-double category, as he is just nine away from surpassing Magic Johnson for third place on the all-time list. Last season, Jokic recorded 25 triple-doubles, bringing his career total to 130. If he maintains this level of performance, he is well-positioned to climb the ranks further.

Chris Paul

Chasing passing greatness

Chris Paul currently ranks third on the all-time assist leaderboard with 11,894 assists. This season, he has the opportunity to overtake Jason Kidd, who sits at 12,091 assists, especially if he maintains his assists-per-game average of 6.8 from last season. With the 7-foot-4 Victor Wembanyama as a target, Paul is well-equipped to continue his ascent up the leaderboard.
