Micah Parsons can’t hide true Cowboys feelings as Jerry Jones’ son tries to reassure

Micah Parsons will enter the offseason eligible for a contract extension, and the 2021 first-round pick is expected to command a blockbuster deal from the Dallas Cowboys

Micah Parsons insisted he wants to be a “Cowboy for life” as Dallas looks to sign the star pass-rusher to a blockbuster contract.

On Sunday, the Cowboys secured a 30-14 win over the Carolina Panthers. Cooper Rush enjoyed a fine outing with 214 passing yards and three touchdowns, and Rico Dowdle rushed for 149 yards as the offense clicked without injured starting quarterback Dak Prescott.

However, the defense starred. Eric Kendricks and Israel Mukuamu both snagged interceptions while Parsons dominated with a pair of sacks as he disrupted the Carolina offense at will. Despite missing some time earlier in the season, Parsons has 8.5 sacks in 2024.

There has been plenty of speculation over Parsons’ future. The phenom has excelled since entering the league as the No. 12 overall pick in 2021, tallying two First-team All-Pro nominations as well as three successive Pro Bowl appearances and the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

But given the Cowboys’ cap troubles and the perceived weaknesses in the roster, Parsons has been touted as a trade target. But the 25-year-old addressed the rumors on his podcast, ‘The Edge with Micah Parsons’.

“We’re gonna figure out a way for me to be a Cowboy for life,” Parsons said. “And I think J (Jerry Jones) and Stephen (Jones) see it that way too so I’m going to be real excited at the end of this year. I hope the fans are going to be excited because I think it’s going to be a great offseason.

“I do think we’re going to attack free agency. I think it’s going to be a great year, cause I think we got the pieces man. To me, I look at it like the reason we want to finish this year so good and we’re already missing stars – some of them stars we’re not going to get back until the end of next year – so if we can finish good and play good defense now, imagine when we’re not 6-8 and we’re 9-5 or 10-6 or whatever the record is.”

He added: “It’s going to be a super exciting year. That’s why I said Cowboys Nation, it looks bad right now and we turning it up, but it’s about to go to a whole other level. So I hope you really pay attention and y’all wake up because it’s about to get really exciting.”

Parsons is in the final year of his original rookie contract. In 2025, he will play under the fifth-year option, making $24 million, and after that, he’s slated to become a free agent unless he inks a blockbuster deal with the Cowboys.

According to Spotrac, Parsons’ market value comes in at $29 million annually, which means he would make more per year than other big names like T.J. Watt and Brian Burns. However, it seems that the Cowboys brass believes he is worth every penny.

“We love Micah,” Stephen Jones told NFL.com. “I can’t imagine there’s a scenario where he’s not wearing a star on his helmet.”
