The trio has been dominating the NBA for well over a decade (and in James’ case, two decades), but James, Curry and Durant came together to represent Team USA on the international stage for the first time ever at the Paris Summer Olympics. It resulted in an undefeated 6-0 record and America’s fifth straight Olympic gold medal in men’s hoops.
All three legends had their great moments in the Olympics.
Durant kicked off the Games with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting in just 17 minutes in the United States’ 110-84 win over Serbia.
James was the MVP for the entire men’s basketball competition, averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.3 steals.
Curry, of course, hit eight three-pointers against France, including four in the final three minutes. His last three-pointer was a rainbow shot over the arms of Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier that splashed in and gave the U.S. a 96-87 lead in the final minute.
Curry also scored 36 against Serbia in the semifinals, while James posted a 16-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in the same game, which saw the U.S. overcome a 13-point deficit to start the fourth quarter.
Now they all have gold medals in tow, and the focus soon turns to the NBA regular season, which begins in two months.
