Are you all ready for a perfect basketball story ending?
Seattle’s love for basketball has never really left since the Supersonics’ controversial move to Oklahoma City in 2008, and Kevin Durant has been very supportive of the prospect of the Supersonics making an NBA comeback.
During a 2018 preseason game in what was then known as Key Arena, Durant emphatically stated, “‘Hey look, man, we deserve a team here. We’ll support a team, and they need to bring one back, man.’ We’re going to keep saying it until it happens,” said Durant while proudly wearing a Shawn Kemp Sonics jersey.
If you think about it, the stars might be aligning for a potential KD return to Seattle:
-Durant’s current contract ends in 2026.
-Adam Silver has already admitted that there is “interest” in expansion. It has been rumored that it can happen as early as the 2026-27 season, with Seattle and Las Vegas as the leading candidates to be awarded NBA franchises.
Durant, of course, will be in his age 38-season by 2026, but he remains one of the game’s best, and most marketable players.
KD was the Rookie of the Year in the Supersonics’ last season in 2008, and it just feels right for him to open a new chapter in Seattle basketball history as his playing years come to a close.
