FRISCO — A month from training camp, the biggest storylines from the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason remain the status (or lack thereof) regarding extensions for a trio of franchise stars: CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott.

Prescott’s extension seems as a potential first domino of the three. Among these, the quarterback remains the highest in the pecking order with the weight and significance of his deal.
As this process carries on with no deal, the balance of power in these negotiations becomes the question. According to ESPN’s Damien Woody, that upper hand belongs to Prescott.
“A quarterback of Dak Prescott’s stature in free agency… there’s going to be teams just running through walls to try to sign Dak Prescott,” Woody said Thursday on First Take.
Prescott unexpectedly ushered in a new era of Cowboys football eight seasons ago. His regular season numbers, especially his 2023 MVP candidate campaign figures, make him a viable top-10 player behind center.
The lone blemish in his resume remains on his postseason record – 2-5.
As of now, Prescott has one year left on his deal and potential suitors will not emerge until the season ends or if the Cowboys’ enter a tumultuous trajectory early on. But a quick look at the quarterback market and the 2025 NFL Draft projections show that an immediate fix would be near impossible to find.
And the only thing worse than losing a quarterback like Prescott? Losing him to a contender either in the division or elsewhere in the NFC.
Despite the long wait on the Prescott extension, getting his signature on the dotted line could carry momentum for the Cowboys securing their other super stars on both sides of the ball. But the clock is ticking….
