Cowboys Rumors: CeeDee Lamb Contract Extension ‘No. 1 Priority’ Over Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly prioritizing wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension over quarterback Dak Prescott’s new deal, per the Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins.

“The good news is the Cowboys made Lamb their No. 1 priority,” Watkins wrote. “According to a person with knowledge of the front office’s thinking, the Cowboys are putting Lamb’s contract extension talks ahead of quarterback Dak Prescott’s.”

Both Lamb and Prescott will be free agents after the 2024-25 season.

The report comes ahead of the Cowboys’ training camp in California next week. According to Watkins, it’s unclear if Lamb has decided to continue his contract holdout.

“When Lamb arrives in Southern California for work is unknown,” Watkins wrote. “A person with knowledge of Lamb’s thinking said a final decision hasn’t been made on whether he will continue his holdout when training camp starts. The Cowboys want Lamb in camp, but the talks, slow as they’ve been, could pick up once the team arrives in California.”

Dallas’ prioritization of Lamb is likely in part due to him holding out. The Cowboys don’t have to worry about being without their star quarterback to start the season, so they likely feel less rushed to get a deal done.

“Prescott is expected to be on the field next Thursday for the first training camp practice of the summer,” Watkins wrote. “You can finalize Prescott’s expected massive contract later with the understanding he’s coming to work.”

One thing that is clear as the Cowboys begin training camp is that Lamb and Prescott are two of the key pieces in making a potential Super Bowl run.

Lamb led the league in receptions (135) last year and was top three in both receiving yards (1,749) and touchdowns (12). It was the best season of his career by far, and he’s only looking to build on it this year.
