49ers’ Brock Purdy Day-to-Day with Back Injury Ahead of Patriots Game in NFL Week 4

The injury bug continues to work its way through the San Francisco 49ers.

Adam Schefter reported that quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with “back soreness” and is considered “day-to-day” ahead of the Week 4 matchup against the New England Patriots.

This news comes as the team is already set to be without wide receiver Deebo Samuel, tight end George Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey for the game. If Purdy was to miss the game, Brandon Allen would be next up on the depth chart.

Ian Rapoport reported that Purdy’s MRI is clean, but the 49ers will also be without defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who suffered a partially torn triceps and will “likely miss the regular season.”

While Purdy may not miss the matchup against the Patriots, he will likely at least be dealing with some discomfort. It’s also a game the 49ers need to win after a 1-2 start to the season.

The Patriots could be a team to get back on track against. They are also 1-2 but are coming off a 24-3 loss to the New York Jets in Week 3.

New England also went 4-13 in 2023 and are in a rebuilding stage. The team showed it can game-plan for a win with a Week 1 upset over the Cincinnati Bengals, but the 49ers defense should still be a tough one to scheme against with an offense that has produced just 39 points.
