Vikings $54 million tackle predicted to cut ties with Minnesota to join Cowboys. How will this deal impact the Vikings’ chances next season?

The Minnesota Vikings could be in the market for a left tackle this offseason, as the timetable for Christian Darrisaw’s recovery from surgery to repair both the ACL and MCL in his left knee is still to be determined.

The Vikings acquired former Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson prior to this year’s NFL trade deadline, which has helped stabilize Minnesota’s offensive line in Darrisaw’s absence. Robinson’s stay in the Twin Cities will likely be short-lived, however, as the 29-year-old made $18 million per year with the Jaguars and figures to cash in during 2025 free agency.
As expected, Matt Holder of Bleacher Report believes Robinson will cut ties with the Vikings this March in favor of the Dallas Cowboys. Here was his take on a potential move to the NFC East:

Tyler Guyton struggled this season, especially in pass protection. While the rookie could turn it around in year two, Dallas should consider bringing in a veteran for some competition at left tackle. That will help keep its Super Bowl window open and make sure Dak Prescott, who will be coming off an injury, stays upright. Robinson has a long track record of being a good blindside protector in the NFL. Adding him in free agency on a short-term deal would give the offense another starting option and allow Guyton another year to develop.

Robinson has started every game for the Vikings at left tackle since he was acquired in Week 9, but he’s been less than dominant, to say the least.

He’s second on the team in penalties with eight, which is not a flattering stat considering he’s been with the team for eight games. He’s only been responsible for two sacks, per PFF’s advanced stats, but he’s already allowed the third-most pressures (25) and second-most hurries (20) among all Vikings players this season.

Robinson hasn’t played his best football since landing in Minnesota, which adds to the unlikelihood of him sticking around on some sort of one-year deal to help bridge the gap to Darrisaw during the 2025 season.

Still, Robinson is a big man — 6-foot-6, 335 pounds — with a ton of NFL experience as a starter. It remains to be seen if his market matches the three-year, $54 million franchise tag extension he got from Jacksonville in 2022, but given Minnesota’s continued success after plugging Robinson into the lineup (the Vikings haven’t lost since a game since making the trade), a team like Dallas figures to have plenty of competition for Robinson’s services if he can finish the season strong and healthy.

The predicted deal of Cam Robinson leaving the Minnesota Vikings to join the Dallas Cowboys has garnered significant attention from NFL experts and fans. With his current contract valued at $54 million, Robinson is considered one of the most critical left tackles for the Vikings. However, if this deal materializes, it will have notable impacts on Minnesota’s team in the upcoming season.

Impact on the Vikings

Losing a high-caliber offensive player like Cam Robinson could create numerous challenges for the Vikings, especially in protecting the quarterback. Their offensive line will face difficulties maintaining its current performance without Robinson’s presence. This could increase pressure on quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins and negatively affect the team’s offensive strategies.

Moreover, the Vikings will need to seek a replacement for Robinson, a task that is far from easy given the scarcity of quality players in this position. The team may consider utilizing backup players, developing young talent, or participating in the transfer market to fill the void left by Robinson.

Benefits for the Cowboys

On the other hand, Robinson’s addition to the Cowboys would be a significant boost for the Dallas team. His presence would greatly enhance the protection of quarterback Dak Prescott, especially after Prescott’s injury last season. This not only improves the Cowboys’ offensive line but also strengthens their chances of competing in the playoffs.

Fans’ Reactions

Robinson’s departure will undoubtedly disappoint Vikings fans, while Cowboys supporters will be filled with optimism for a more successful season. Discussions about whether the Vikings are undergoing a roster restructuring have also become a hot topic on sports forums.
