JJ Redick Weighs In On Anthony Davis’s ‘Organized’ Role In The Los Angeles Lakers This Season

The Los Angeles Lakers are always in the spotlight, and this season is no different. Anthony Davis is playing a key role, and former NBA player and analyst JJ Redick has shared his thoughts on how the Lakers can make the most of Davis’s talents in the 2024-25 NBA season.

Redick stresses that the Lakers must organize their defense to ease Davis’s workload. In a conversation with ESPN LA’s Steve Mason, Ramona Shelburne, and Jorge Sedano, he stated, “We have to be organized defensively so he doesn’t have to do everything. We also need to be organized offensively to avoid long stretches where he doesn’t touch the ball. When I say ‘Hub,’ it can be in the post, isolation, or trail position. He needs to get the ball.

He also highlighted the importance of “empowering” Davis, which could help him become an MVP candidate or make the All-NBA list.

JJ Redick Questions What A Traditional Center Really Is While Highlighting Anthony Davis’s One-of-a-Kind Skills

When asked about needing a traditional center behind Davis, Redick questioned what a “traditional center” really means. He pointed out Davis’s unique skills: “When you say traditional center what does that mean?” Redick said in a press conference on Wednesday. “Is Brook Lopez a traditional center though? … We have not only one of the best players in the world but one of the most unique players in the world in Anthony Davis. There are very few people who can do what he does at his size, especially in terms of his ball-handling and defensive skills.

During the 2023-24 season, Anthony Davis had an impressive year, averaging 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game, with a field goal percentage of 55.6%. He played a career-high 76 games and made his ninth All-Star selection. Davis proved his defensive strength and scoring ability, earning first-team All-Defensive honors and second-team All-NBA recognition.

While the Lakers have experienced players, their success will depend greatly on Davis’s health and performance. He remains a key player alongside LeBron James.
