Stephen Curry talks about his renewal with the Golden State Warriors: “It’s about keep winning”

The legendary franchise point guard will continue for at least 1 more year at a rate of 62.6 million dollars with the clear intention of continuing to make history

Stephen Curry, the superstar of the Golden State Warriors, has reaffirmed his commitment to the team where he began his NBA journey by signing a one-year contract extension worth $62.6 million. While Curry’s decision to finish his career with the Warriors has been clear for some time, this renewal is not only symbolic but also aimed at keeping the flame of competitiveness alive.

“It’s about continuing to win,” declared Curry in an interview with Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic. “And taking the necessary steps to give ourselves a chance. The standard hasn’t changed. The expectation hasn’t changed.”

Curry’s new extension ensures his stay with the Warriors until the 2026-2027 season, keeping him alongside key teammates such as Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green. However, the team dynamics have shifted with the departure of Klay Thompson, his longtime backcourt partner, who joined the Dallas Mavericks this summer through a sign-and-trade deal.

With Thompson’s exit, the Warriors’ management has been busy restructuring the team around Curry. They have added players like De’Anthony Melton, a guard known for his defense and three-point shooting, veteran Kyle Anderson, and sharpshooter Buddy Hield. Additionally, young talents Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis, who had solid rookie seasons, are emerging as key pieces in the rotation. Jonathan Kuminga, a former top-10 draft pick, has also shown notable progress in his third year in the NBA.

Curry’s Ambition

With his long-term future secured, Curry has his sights set on raising another Larry O’Brien Trophy. “From my perspective, nothing has changed,” expressed Curry. “You have an appreciation for the position, the opportunity, and the support of the people who have been with you on the journey.”

Curry, who has often expressed his desire to play his entire career for one team, was pleased to have resolved his contractual situation. “I’ve always said I wanted to play for one team my whole career. So it’s good to put that (extension question) behind me and focus fully on basketball and the season.”

With Curry leading the way, the Warriors remain a formidable contender in the NBA, and their quest for another championship continues.
