Lakers News: Lakers All-Star Duo Pursuing 2028 LA Olympic Glory After Paris Win

Could LeBron James and Anthony Davis win another Gold Medal in 2028?

Los Angeles Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis played pivotal roles in securing Team USA’s fifth consecutive gold medal. James, the tournament MVP, started every game, marking his fourth Olympic medal and third gold. Now, both players could have their eyes set on the 2028 Olympics.

Davis quickly established himself as the top center for the team, although he shared the spotlight with 2023 MVP Joel Embiid, who started for most of the tournament. By the end of the competition, Davis was logging more minutes than both Embiid and Bam Adebayo, showcasing his importance to the squad.

Looking ahead, both players are eyeing the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. James will be 43 by then, while Davis will be 35. Although that age might seem challenging for a center, several key players on Team USA this summer were in their mid-to-late 30s, including James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, speculation is that Davis will pursue a spot on the 2028 roster, despite the potential challenges of aging. Team USA defeated France 98-87 in the gold medal game, and experts believe that the French team, led by rising star Victor Wembanyama, could pose a significant threat in future Olympics.

Davis had a standout NBA season in 2023-24, playing a personal-best 76 games. While his shooting outside the paint has been inconsistent, he remains a formidable defender and a strong scorer in the paint. How these skills will hold up in four years remains to be seen.

As the Lakers look to the future, the prospect of their All-Star duo representing the U.S. again adds an exciting layer to their legacy.
