The day Michael Jordan played with a boy in a wheelchair… and lost!

The Twitter account for the Paralympics Games brought back a remarkable story from 1987, when basketball legend Michael Jordan was beaten by a 16-year-old kid, Eric Barber.

Barber was wheelchair-bound and took on the NBA star, who had been the rookie of the year in 1985.

He wrote a letter to a sports show on NBC explaining his dream to play against his Chicago Bulls idol, which led to the game being set up.

Jordan was also in a wheelchair for the game, which Barber won 20-14.

“If I’d practiced during the week, it would’ve been very different,” Jordan reflected recently, speaking to paralympic.org.

Since then, Barber has gone on to take part in four Paralympic Games, from 2000 to 2012, and won two bronze medals for the United States.
