JJ Redick’s Major Anthony Davis Snub Sparks Blunt Response from Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team for the third time in his career earlier this year.

Despite receiving 60 of 99 first-team votes, though, Davis was a surprising omission on one notable 2023-24 All-Defense ballot.

The voter in question? New Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

Redick, who shared his votes on his YouTube channel this spring, didn’t include Davis on his first- or second-team All-Defense ballot. He did, however, vote Davis as a member of the All-NBA third team.

Despite the ‘snub’ by Redick, Davis and the Lakers appear to be moving forward with no hard feelings. NBA insider Marc Stein reported Saturday that Redick’s omission won’t be an issue this coming season.

“One source close to the process insists that JJ Redick’s refusal to place Anthony Davis on his All-Defense ballot this season is a topic both parties can set aside with little fuss now that Redick is Davis’ coach,” Stein wrote, via Bleacher Report.

Redick, 39, agreed to become the Lakers’ next head coach earlier this week.

According to The Athletic, the longtime NBA guard spoke with Davis before the hire.
